In Bungee jumping sport, A jumper falls from a high altitude with a rubber (“bungee”) cable attached to both their feet and the jump site and is bounced partway back when the cord bounces from its maximum length after a period of headfirst free fall. Its origins can be found on Pentecost Island, Vanuatu, where divers jump off a high tower with their feet attached by a vine whose length is calibrated to allow the jumper to descend till his hair brushes the earth below. The Oxford Dangerous Sports Club made the first Western bungee leaps, inspired by accounts of the Pentecost Island divers, and bungee jumping was first given professionally to the public in New Zealand in 1988.
